Manufacturing

Transforming materials and components into repeatable products.

Manufacturers coordinate a process, a production rate, and a specification. Some compete through continuous low-cost output; others through high precision, protected designs, qualification, or flexibility. Equipment alone is not capacity: trained operators, usable inputs, process yield, and demand must coincide.

What to look for

Follow both the physical transformation and the inventory it creates. Ask where defects are discovered, which stage limits throughput, and how a change in volume affects fixed-cost recovery. The profiles distinguish fabrication, assembly, and process industries rather than assigning them one economic model.
